very simple: they have an inner value of 250, while ectos and shards are 100g.
5-5.5k (which is the average i payed for my gems) it's not crazy money to me, it's pretty cheap even if jewels wont have any stat bonus.

btw, someone like to invest money on perfect weapons, i prefer to have gems, where's the problem?

i dont think buying them cus they are valueable in rl
is a good idea at all, however its not a greater
idea to buy them cus they might be used in chapter 2
and from there (if they are) they might be used in
the armor of your choise....

not a good reason to me

i've still very skeptical of buying rubies or sapphires. i only have about 3 rubies and 6 sapphires, collection from drops over the past year of playing gw :P

we'll just have to wait n see what they do.

I'd be laughing so hard if they're common drops in factions^^

thats what im thinking ^^

not all "rare crafting materials" are that good :P
i wouldn't be surprised if they turn out to be just like a bolt of linen or fur square

now, the other rare crafts that been neglected.. like monsterous eye or the sprintwood plank thingy. now i can see those being something along to lines of being used for new 15k or mayb even uw armor? :O dunno if theres any signs of uw armor :P

I've stocked up on around 2000 Rubies/Sapphires - 4 stacks of each. I can definately see them getting used for something incredibly cool in the near future

After stocking up that many, I would pay good money to see the look on your face if the prove worthless in Cantha.

Nothing is guaranteed regarding the factions economy.

And let us not forget that even if these sales are based on leaks from beta testers that beta and final versions are often worlds apart. They might decide to chop the gem functionality out of it before it even hits shelves. Who knows?

Alright, people are speculating that the prices will atleast double if not more which will be awesome if it does. Now what people are starting to fret is if these DON'T skyrocket. Well here's the thing, if they don't it's ok. No matter what the outcome is if you bought those gems when they were 3,4 or even 6k each you will most likely not BLOW any gold. I highly doubt the prices will fall below that very quickly. SOOO if there is no use for them then you just sell it back and be sitting on a nice chunk of change.

rubies and saphs already drop in uw/fow and from fire imps. so that means it's not a material that can be crafted, u have to find it.

as for their use, most likely it will be something expensive to show off with that has no other benefit, just like fow armor.

i'll probly buy 250 of each if i'll be there for the price rest, if not, i won't be wasting my time farming them.

If you have that many, why are you wasting your time even investing? You're going to have to spend more real $$ to buy more accounts to hold all the wealth.

None at all whatsoever. I just expect in the chapter that uses the gems for a purpose, be it Factions or a future one, the drop rate will be increased. Simple enough.

I do not think it is a coincidence that ghe prices of Rubies, Saphires, AND ectos have risen since yeasterday's debacle.

People have known about the use in the facction update for weeks now, and the price of Ecto DROPPED, and the prices of rubies and saphires was fluctuating around 6-7K usually at 6500.Now I lig on to see Ectos at 9K (up from 6500 yesterday) and Rubies and saphires at 8500 and 8000 respectively. That is quite a jump. I have over 400 of each, and was buying whenever I saw them recently at 6K. I could buy between 20-28 before the price would rise to 6500, so to get to 8 and 9 K that is A LOT of buying, and buying at pirces that are a lot higher than have been widely and very recently avaialble. Doesn't make sense to me. No one buys off the merchants if they can hep it. I only do it because I have more plats than I have room, so I buy something I think I will be using in the near future.

Also who is buying ectos off a merchant these days for 7K or more when you can get them for 6500 to 6800(7K at the most) in TOA?

They talk about game economy and screwing everything up, but whenever they try to "fix" it, it gets screwed up even more.

My other favorite is monsterous eyes. There are now selling at 1700 per, up from about 470 or so last I cared to notice. Who in the hell is buying that many monsterous eyes from the merchants to make the pirces go up like that? They have absolutely ZERO use from what I have heard, and I doubt they will be used for anything other than a head piece or something (which generally requires only one of an item to make) SO why hoard them? Or is it just anther glitch that is a by product of the fix?

So to me it isn't a coincidence that all of a sudden prices for the materials that people hoarded yesterday have suddenly jumped up 20-30% in price. Ectos have risen 40% up to 9K from 6500. Steep jumps in a one day period for sure.

I am done trying to figure it out and what they think they are doing, it is obvious they don't know either. Trying to fix an economy in a game that is supposed to be about skill is ironic enough. trying to manipulate prices of certain items and materials is even more ludicrous. But it seems to generally be the result whenever they try to"fix" something.

I've been buying monsterous bits slowly, for months.
